Sticker Book

Two-person exhibition with Phil Frankland
Sticker Book is an exhibition of recent and new paintings from Matt Antoniak and Phil Frankland. The show is the result of a continuing back and forth conversation between the artists since 2017, exchanging ideas and critique.
Antoniak and Frankland both inherit the tropes of painting, but any such history appears to be hereditary - instead of following this modus operandi to mimicry, it is used as a platform to explore flexible interpretations of source materials and the appropriation of the preconceived image. The blatancy and honesty in both artists’ work is indicative of practices striving to filter information, to reduce the din of contemporary life to simpler but highly charged gestures of intent.
