The project encouraged examining and caring for the everyday resources we have around us in Shieldfield. The project’s title was taken from Modern Nature, the diary of Derek Jarman’s iconic garden in Dungeness. Our Corner of Paradise considers how gardens and green spaces are far more than just space for cultivation, but sites for building community, conversation, knowledge sharing, quiet protest and degrowth.

Workshops held over September and October included pulping and making handmade recycled paper, a pond-dipping walk and draw at Ouseburn pond, giant flower making, and creating sculptures out of waste.

The project was supported by Ragdoll Foundation and Malings Community Fund, and would not have been possible without the help of Shieldfield Youth Programme, Shieldfield Art Works, Michael Jefferies and Ouseburn Farm
